haemoglobin per red cell
- Unit
- pg
- Sample
- Whole blood

MCH measures how much haemoglobin each red cell carries on average. It tracks MCV and helps classify anaemia.
Together with MCV, MCH gives a picture of red cell structure and helps determine whether anaemia is iron-deficient or has another cause.
What does low MCH mean?
Low MCH appears with iron deficiency and chronic inflammation.
What does high MCH mean?
High MCH appears with B12 or folate deficiency and macrocytic anaemia.
